Will laser engraving on the outside of a tungsten wedding band ring hold up over time?

My fiance wants to get a tungsten wedding band with laser engraving on the OUTSIDE of the band (it has a celtic knot design on the outside). He is worried, however, that over time the celtic knotwork will get scratched. I thought that tungsten was a pretty tough metal, and the woman at the jewelry store assured us that the design work would not scratch over time.

I’d guess after reading about it that the jeweler was right. I knew that tungsten steel was tough, but it seems that the element itself is pretty tough, too!
It’ll CERTAINLY be harder to scratch than a traditional gold ring!
